8 thousand vehicles will fit at the same time in Polaris’ new distribution centre, which was built at Wspólna Street in Opole. The centre started operating in September this year.
The distribution centre was built at the rear of the Polaris factory, which produces quads and off-road vehicles. Vehicles produced in Opole are sold in European, African and Middle East markets.
– There were two reasons why we decided to build this centre next to our plant. First one – cheaper logistics service than the one that has been operating in our centre in Antwerp, Belgium – says Bogusław Dawiec, director of the Polaris plant. – Second reason is that 70% of the mentioned market is covered by the production in Opole. There was no point in bringing vehicles from Opole to Antwerp, and then from there to our dealers in Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia or coming back to Poland – he added.
The construction of the centre started in April this year and it started operating at the beginning of September this year. The ground was paved and dehydrated and docks were built. It is an open space without roof. There is also a wall that separates the centre from the test track, which is also located in the factory.
– We are prepared for simultaneous storage in our distribution centre of 8 thousand vehicles – says Bogusław Dawiec.
The centre employed 10 new employees: logistics specialists and forklift drivers. A total of 285 people work in Polaris today.
An asphalt test track was also built on the site. Until now, there was only off-road track. On the new one it will be possible to carry out homologation tests on noise levels.
Polaris Polska has opened a quad and off-road vehicle factory in Opole in 2015. The value of the investment reached about PLN 100 million, and the annual output is to reach 25 thousand vehicles per year. The American investment is located on an area of 12 hectares, with a production area of 32,000 m2.
